DC DMC ‘06 @ Club Five

I was trying to clean up some disk space today and came across the video from my 2006 DMC routine. Yes, in case you didn’t know I am a battle DJ. What does a battle DJ do you ask? Well, they “battle” other DJs. Yes, and I mean battle … It’s serious stuff that involves needles, hot wax, and often times blood shed!

Anyway, this is actually the last DMC battle that I did. Sadly, the art form is lessening in popularity. I started in 2004, and the DC DMC ‘04 battle was a complete different vibe. The venue was Nation (which no longer exists, the Nats Stadium took over that whole area of DC) and there were A LOT more people there. There were a few local b-boy (break dancers for those not in the know) that came out to the battle to settle some beef. From the Asian kid with the purple mo-hawk to the white kid from the suburbs who could pop & lock better than Usher … I kid you not, it was like a scene straight out of Beat Street. It’s a shame those days essentially over.

Ambeint Funk

This is another recording that I and two of my other turntablist friends recorded at a session. We later tried to do a “proper” recording but never could recreate the “original funk”.

Flatulence Funk

So one night I was in a DJ session with 2 other guys and we started coming up with an actual “song”. It seriously sounded hot. I was all excited and got everyone over to do a proper recording where I had each stereo input getting pipped into ProTools … it completely bombed. I don’t even think I could salvage the recording. The recording below is a recording during the session but more “after the fact”.
